Super Monday Message

Good morning Piute County School District! It’s a new day and a new week. Some had the opportunity to witness some fun sights in the skies this last week. The northern lights were visible much further south than normal last week. Before astronomers explained some of the science of these lights to us there were a lot of less scientific explanations.

Some Native Americans believed the lights were the torches of the deceased and that any wind in connection with the lights was their whispers. The explanations varied significantly with some believing the lights were a good thing and others believing they were a bad omen. The terms “Aurora” and “Boreas” are Greek words that refer to the “god of dawn” and “god of the north wind” respectively. In ancient Rome the rare sighting of the northern lights was a sign from the Goddess of Dawn that a new day was beginning.

Everyday we get to start with a blank canvas. The time in the day is fixed, but everything else about it we get to decide. Let’s make this a great new day and a great new week. Have a great week 38.

Super High Fives

Just a couple of the awesome recent accomplishments that need a big thank you. 

• A super high five to Ainsley Talbot, the only spring sport Academic All-State recipient from Piute High School. Great work on the field and in the classroom.
• A super high five to all of our substitutes. Sometimes they don’t know they’re needed until the morning of school and they show up ready to help. Occasionally  they help for a long-term absence and they keep things running smoothly. We have great substitutes that support our schools.
