Super Monday Message

Every year Mrs. Fautin does a little experiment with her class. They take several slices of bread and they test how much bacteria will grow on the bread during the school year. They have a control slice where they simply put a perfect slice into a sandwich bag and tape it to the wall. They then have the experiment slices where they touch the slice on the toilet seat or drop it on the floor. These slices are also placed in a sandwich bag and taped to the wall. Over the course of the school year some slices will slowly change color as they bacteria grows, but others look the same as when they were new. It’s a fun experiment that you should look at next time you visit her class. 

Each year I ask students what the value of a candy bar is. I then ask if the value changes if someone sits on it or if it's dropped on the floor or if it’s left in the sun for a day. Usually they say the value of the candy bar has changed in each situation. Then we discuss a dollar bill. Does its value change if someone sits on it, if it’s dropped on the floor, or if it’s left in the sun for the day? Usually the response is that its value is the same. A lot can happen to a dollar bill and it retains its value. We can go through a lot and retain our value. Our options and opportunities can change and evolve with our choices, but we keep our value. We are never worthless.

Super High Fives

Just a couple of the awesome recent accomplishments that need a big thank you. 

• A super high five to the elementary teachers that just finished the last in-person training for the science of reading training. It has been a two year process of many late nights and extra days of training to get through it. Big thanks for all their hard work on improving their practice.
• A super high five to Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. James, and Mrs. Huyler for arranging a fun collaboration between the 6th grade students and the 8th grade digital literacy class. The students were able to work together and build their own keyboards. It was a fun activity and a great idea.
• A missed super high five to the Piute High School Alumni that participated in the Piute High School Career Fair. They gave up a day of their time to come and educate our students about their careers. A super high five to Zach Allen, Clint Coates, Autumn James Gleave, Annalee Burr Henry, Chad Price, Dave Roberts, and Dominic Vigil.
